Activity Assessment
  • Complete this Zoomerang Survey - it is to give me information about you and your knowledge and expectations of what we will cover in this class.
  • Describing the experience of the Systems Thinking/Systems Changing Simulation
    • Think of a few words to describe your simulation experience.
      1. Make a posting on the class WIKI Change Simulation Discussion.
      2. Read other postings by classmates.
      3. Return later in the week and comment on at least one of your classmates thoughts about the simulation.
  • Read Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 in our text.  Summarize the chapters on your WIKI page.
  • Technology Needs Assessments.
We will be examining technology use in schools - and to do so will be using Needs Assessments. A Needs Assessment is a systematic exploration of the way things are and the way they should be.  You are to look at current needs assessments and how they are used by schools and districts. This research will probably take about an hour minimally.

Search the web and find two- three good needs assessments that you believe will assist you in understanding the current status of your district/school - and how you will be able to plan for improvement. Some possible sources: Post the Needs Assessments you found useful and why on your WIKI page.  Please use APA citing (feel free to us something like Son of Citation Machine to help you format).

  • First article-resource review – Change Process.

Using the library, Internet, etc., locate an article, web site, podcast, etc that discusses the change process or how organizations deal with change.
Post the review on your WIKI page

Study Group Work

  • Review your team's Strategy Record Sheet and "Feedback/Results" column to determine which activities were successful.  Mark them in a way to indicate success (+) or not (-).  Success means you were not blocked; people were moved; you got Bens or congratulations or good information.   --

    See  Sample PDCA Map
  • Analyze your PDCA Map

Be prepared to post as a group answers to the following
  • Answer the questions from Handout #6: Learning from the Game: Pulling it All Together.
  • Pay attention to what questions contribute to our learnings in the following four areas:
    • Role of effective leadership
    • Role of people
    • A Systems Perspective of Change
    • Understanding and Using the Process of Change
  • Reflect on:
    • Why you were blocked?
    • What did you to get beyond the blocks?
    • What did you learn about resistance to change?
    • How does this relate to your experiences in your own organization?
      Handouts #7 and #8
  • Look at the total number of Bens you received and note when your team first started earning them.
    • What Year was it?
    • What activities moved many people and gave you the most Bens?
      Handout #11
  • What data gathering activities did you choose and how did they help or hinder you?
    • Did you collect data throughout the simulation?
    • If not, how did this affect you?
      Handout #13
  • How did the sequence of your activities affect your outcomes?
    • How would you change your sequence if you played again and why?
      Handouts #12, 14
  • What activities in the simulation helped the school community members to learn continuously?
    • How did you as players continuously learn throughout the simulation?
      Handouts #9, 13, 10
  • Create a group PDCA map and post it in the class WIKI PDCA map area
  • Social and Ethical Issues in Technology
