Classwork

Today we will be looking further into how the Wisconsin Standards are used within a classroom, and how we look at staff development.

  • Wisconsin Information and Technology Standards
  • Look at how the standards would be used when designing a lesson for staff development
  • The roles of Technology in teaching and learning
  • Questions we will discuss
    • Where do you feel
      • you are in a stage of Technology Adoption? (Familiarization; Utilization; Integration; etc.)
      • your district is?
        Please give examples.
    • Our article Teaching with Technology states that there are "traditional roles that technology has served in the classroom"

      How have you used technology in this sense?
    • Describe the teaching traits of a teacher whom you believe to be effective. Where would you place that teacher on the continuum of technology adoption? Explain your decision.
    • What role do you believe the web has on
      • Your curriculum

  • Introduction to Social and ethical issues in technology use
  • Questions we will discuss
    • In the Continuum (Awareness; Adoption; Adoption; Transformation) in this area - where do you believe:
      • You currently fall

        Give examples why you feel this way.
    • How are you or your district addressing Social, Legal and Ethical issues in technology use?

Individual

  • Article review
  • Locate an article, web site, podcast, etc and create your 4th Article Review - on Staff Development in Instructional Technology - (Due Session 6)
  • Instructional Lessons aligned to Standards
  • Use the Stritch Library site to access netTrekker - you will need your Stritch ID card for this. Review lessons by Standard and or Subject Area.
  • Look at the Wisconsin IDEAS web site for lessons aligned to Standards or subject area
  • Look at the MarcoPolo site for lessons aligned to Standards and/or subject area
  • You will use what you learn here as you work later in your group on the Staff Development project
  • Evaluating administrative software
  • Locate or design an instrument/process for evaluating administrative software (ex: Student Records, IEP's, Financial, etc) Describe the positive and negative reasons to use or not use the instrument.
  • Read Chapter Four
  • Chapter 4 - Technology in Educational Administration - Summarize Chapter Four in 300-500 Words on your WIKI page
 
  • Evaluating your District Plan
  • You should have located your district technology plan - using the DPI checklist - describe which areas you feel your district plan was successful and which areas it may be falling short.  Do this on your WIKI page.

Study Group

  • Administrative Software
  • Share the instrument/process you will be using for the Administrative Software evaluation (individual assignment)
 
  • Administrative Sytems Committee
  • Assume that you are responsible for initiating a 5-year administrative technology plan for a school district. For the first meeting of the new Administrative Systems Advisory Committee, you are to prepare a brief assessment of the school district's present level of administrative systems development. How would you outline such an assessment? Post this in the group page for Aministrative Systems.

  • Program Design
  • Develop a program (feel free to integrate sites you located as individuals from netTrekker, IDEAS and MarcoPolo) that deal with the Instructional Technology Standards. Design all aspects of the inservice - covering the hardware/software needed and what content will be covered and how you will assess teachers success at the program. 
This will be presented on the last night of class
  • Critical Issues in Technology Management
  • Take a look at this PowerPoint on Critical Management Issues - please alert me if you are unable to view PowerPoint.
  • Of the issues listed in the PowerPoint and from readings (as well as any you feel are important), what do you
    • consider to be the top three in your school/district
    • how would you address them.
  • Place your answers on this group page for Critical Management Issues
